I have been driving a focus for the last few years. It has never given me an ounce of trouble only pleasure. A month ago I dropped into a main ford dealer for a major service which I have had completed. About six days after this the engine management light came on, I continued driving as there was no noticeable change in the performance of the car I went back to the dealer to have this checked out two and half hours later after performing diagnostics which included driving the car, a valve on the camshaft was replaced the cost of which was over €200. I drove away sore but content to have the problem rectified. Last weekend the light appeared again I went back to the garage the mechanic showed me the readout it occurring in the same area on the engine, he stated that they need to strip the engine down to examine it so see if its a timing fault. This will cost yet another €200 as parts may be required. The garage charged me €50 for the privilege of telling me this news. When I arrived home the engine light went out and has not come on since. It is also worth nothing the car has performed perfectly normal throughout this episode no misfiring or hesitation whatsoever

    Points worth considering
Is there a fault at all or is the ECU giving a false reading?
Do the garage know what they are doing as they obviously failed to fix this the first time out? of course they deny this
Where could one go to get redress on this issue ?

Any advice on this issue would be gratefully appreciated

unfortunatly when lights come on in the dash there is no way of guessing what may be wrong.
only thing i can say to save a few bob is go to an independant mechanic.
get him to check teh faults.
