Inspiron-trouble turning on

Hi Its a Dell inspiron 510 about 3 years old. Was running fine last night - when i tried to turn it on now it lights up as normal (no red lights for low battery) but within 30secs it just closes down lights go out and its dead. Replaced battery about 18 months ago but it doesn't seem like a battery problem anyway. help…

I presume it was plugged in when you tested it?

yep - its plugged in alright - normal lights show green momentariily then turn off.
