    Hey,

My girlfriend and I were in Berlin last Summer and thought the place was so good we are heading back again this week. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for stuff to do and see in Berlin that might be a bit out of the ordinary. We did a lot of the historic/museum stuff last year. Anyone suggest any good exhibits/clubs/restaraunts/bars/sights?

    Thanks.

Granted every time I was there it was hot (summer). You can get the train out for a day if you want. Think it is only 30-40 mins from berlin hauptbahnhof.

yeh I was there during the summer too. Its meant to be a bit cold and rainy at the moment but sure it's still Berlin. Can't wait.

Just looking for some wacky ideas.

OP, what kind of things are you interested in? I live here so can give you some tips!

Hey thanks, well I have a keen interest in photography and cinema.

But I was also wondering about some good clubs/bars while not having to worry about dress code/etc. as I'm packing light.

As i said I did the really touristy things last summer. Looking for an more alternative approach

I was in Tachelles last summer and though the place was amazing but I dont know if it will work in the cold...

Any other cool/funky/alt areas to check out?

If you haven't done an underground tour I'd recommend doing that. It is literally an underground tour and they bring you to some cool locations. The time I went we were brought to an underground nuclear bomb shelter. See http://berliner-unterwelten.de/guided-tours.3.1.html

There are plenty of squat bars around Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg if you want to go to some punk parties etc. See if you can pick up a Stress Faktor (usually easy to find in any occupied house) for a list of events. Here's their website; http://www.stressfaktor.squat.net/. These are the proper dingy places that would be a big part of the underground scene here. Tacheles is fairly 'mainstream' alternative if ye get me :P

Someone mentioned Dr Pong already, which is a communal ping pong bar in Prenzlauerberg. Good fun :) But I was at a better place with the same idea just last night in Kreuzberg, if I find out the name of it I'll post back.

One of my favourite places in Berlin though is an abandoned CIA listening post that was used during the Cold War by the Americans to listen in on East Germany. After the war they just shipped out of there leaving the bare buildings behind. It's a really eerie place and like nothing I've ever seen or heard before (if you go up to the highest tower dome you'll know what I mean).

If you are in to photography it is an absolute must - such a good photo location. You won't find it in any of the guide books - it's all fenced off but there are holes cut in the fence so it's easy enough to get in. You won't get in trouble, just play the dumb tourist if anyone approaches you. There was no one around when I was there and friends of mine have been a bunch of times and had no hassle. If you want to go there let me know and I can send you the directions. It's easy enough though.

Tacheles lol i figured as much but it was still fun.

That CIA post sounds mad. I sent you a PM.

Whats the weather like by the way?

The weather is ok. Definitely getting warmer. It's still a bit nippy. Rained for the first time yesterday in a while but it was only a brief shower. It's 6 degrees now which would be about average I guess.

Very nice Thai restaurant on Dircksenstrasse, close to Alexanderplatz.
