I'm building a family tree for my Grandfather's 90th birthday this year and I came across my dad's "certificate of service" from the PDF.

The funny thing is that it doesn't have his date of birth in it, just service number, enlistment date and discharge information.

Not very important but is this normal ?

Is it a little green book? My old man got a green book upon his discharge if you want I can try root it out.

Yep, little green book. "LA 89"

Don't go to any trouble. It's not that important :)

Don't take offence at this, but its entirely possible your grandfather either didn't know his date of birth - or he may have been too young for military service on his enlistement date to lied that he didn't know it!.

But if you wish I can make enquiries for you.

Cheers Mairt but it's my Dad's service record I'm referring to. My grandfather never bothered with the army 'cos his dad lived through WWI and didn't seem to think much of it :)

My dad left in '97 (voluntary retirement) and I'm pretty sure I know what age he is :)

But seeing as the crowd here want to help so much I'll start a different thread with a better question :)
