Driving Test Tomorrow - A question of Speed

    Hi All,

I have my driving test tomorrow in Raheny (quite nervous!) and I have a question about the speed limit. Alot of the roads in the area aren't signposted regarding speed. Am I right in assuming that when a road doesn't indicate otherwise that 50KM is the maximum speed?

I know that for a stretch of the Howth Road and the Coast road its 60km. Is there anywhere else I should be aware of?

Also, since I have ya here. Hand Signals - theres only like 4 or 5 in the RSA's Rules of the Road book - are they the only ones you're expected to know?

Thanks in advance - this forum is amazing for someone learning to drive, I'll let ya's know how I get on tomorrow.

    Cheers

If it's a built up area and you haven't seen a sign to the contrary, do 50 kmh if conditions allow.

The hand signs given in the book are the ones you may be asked about, think they're the only 'official' ones anyway, although no doubt you will have seen several others in use on the roads :) Good luck.

Having just passed my own driving test yesterday, I was wondering the same thing. I followed a policy of when in doubt do 50kph. you need to show confidence so dont do 40kpm but breaking the speed limit is a silly way of earning a grade 2 fault in my opinion. All the best hope its not to late giving you my opinion.

If I remember correctly from my test, coming up to a year ago now... you should not go any faster than 50 KM/H.

The test is usually in a built up area anyway so you can be tested on the various skills you will need to pass...

Speeding in a test is a sure way to fail.

On my test some of the route was in a 60 km/h area, had I stayed at or below 50 and the conditions allowed me to drive closer to 60 then I would possibly have earned a fault for failing to make due progress.

If you see a sign for 60 or even 80 and it's safe to do so, you should progress to a safe speed, within the limit.

Must depend on the route they take so. Mine was in and around Dun Laoighre area where it was mainly 50 KM.

But yes, you are correct... If the limit is higher you could be marked down for failure to progress.

    Thanks alot Lads,

Just passed the test there with 6 grade 2's.... none for speeding. It was one of the many questions racing through my head before I had the test, it was all grand on the day but!

    Chuffed!
