Given the reputation synonymous with rubber bullets (or baton-rounds to use the correct term iirc) on this island, I think this thread is somewhat in bad taste ...

Well in that case could you not consider the reputation on guns on this island, could you not consider the whole airsoft forum "in bad taste"

    Anyway
    ill take 5

But would these be under 1 joule or would they put an m203 over i joule???

Personally, I think they'd be fine in airsoft terms for knocking out vehicles or "blowing holes" in walls. However, it weighs 150g, so even if only 30g or so of that is the projectile itself, there's no way you could keep it under 1 joule. Pity.

There are foam rubber ones available, but you'd probably need a perfectly still day for them.

For clarity's sake, these aren't rubber bullets, baton rounds, less lethal ammo etc. These are airsoft 40mm slugs.

I've got one of these exact ones to test and, while they're not bad, they're vastly limited in their use. They also leak like a sieve (being KA, what'd you expect?). The slug isn't rubber, but an injection molded, hollow plastic. They're quite light and impart very little impact energy. They're also nowhere near accurate.

    Well considering it says
    Effective Distance is 40-50 Foot

And the weight I'd say the chances are that it would be quite a bit over, but hopefully not, they would be kick ass

EDIT: never mind, Dex clarified it for us

hence why i was wondering what the story was, and the fact of deaths related to baton rounds which is why i queried the danger.

Yea would be hard to keep under one joule, and groin protection sounds like a must.

    Well we can always dream

Once again dex comes to the rescue.

Also they have madbull stun grenades on ehobby, anyone any experience of them?

Madbull stun grenades are perported to be good, but suffer from a finnicky timer and the requirement of CO2 (green hasn't got the pressure by all accounts). Cork airsoft shop also have them as far as I remember.

keeping in mind though, that the law states a 1J "muzzle energy". 203 nades don't have or need a muzzle/barrel to be fired so in theory dont apply to the 1J limit.,

Imagine hitting someone with it that has no idea what they are, i could see fists flying.

Honestly, it doesn't impart half the energy you think it does. I've been hit from as little as 10 feet by it and felt no pain at all. It feels like someone giving hog a friendly dig on the shoulder. The shape and weight of them means they shed most of their energy within the first few feet. I still wouldn't fire it at someone, but I'd be confident that if someone did step in front of it as I fired, there'd be no injury or harm done.

I saw a review on this in Airsoft Soldier.
They put them down as gimmicks and absolute fail.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

They pretty much are. A nice effect but nothing more. Range and accuracy are too low for any practical use. I haven't used mine since I tested it for that reason.

Until they are loaded into an m203.

The same logic could be applied to a live bullet, its not in breach of the law til ye put it in a rifle...

Not having a pop, but these things are the wrong end of the grey area I'd presume. Better safe than sorry.

Not really, it's illegal to posess ammunition without a licence:P

Fair enough but not the point I'm making, just a flawed analogy.

True, probably best to stay on the safe side of these things, argument could be made that they're illegal:)

Yep, blays right on this one, you have yo have a license to possess live ammunition so its a void point.
would you object to being shot with this if it came from an M203 launcher? and would you be ok with it if someone fired it from the hand?

Worked it out yesterday (poorly), something like 43 FPS at 1J.
    Potent...

If its over a joule, and is fired from an m203, which incorporates a barrel, its pretty clear where they stand.

I wouldnt be a bit happy about being shot by a guy with a hot aeg, same thing applies.

Until someone more knowledgeable of the law says otherwise, I wont be using one, or be allowing one be used on me.
