    Hi Guys & Gals.

Just signed up, found the Classic Car section by pure accident.

There seems to be a great cross section of members with many different motors.

Anyway I'll contribute where I can and hopefully I can assist since I'm a bit of a car nut in general, particulary for classis of the 60's-80's era.

I'm member of a couple of classic Mercedes-Benz clubs as I run a couple of Merc's and have a backround from within the motor industry.

    Cheers,

    JohnBoy Mac.

    Hi JohnBoy,

you're very welcome. Look forward to your posts. What are you running at the mo? And before everyone else asks, could you post some pics?

    I have a 280E W123 as my daily driver, had a W114 230.6 prior to that.

    Hi & thank you.

I've been running a 190E 2.5-16 non cat (RUF) 204bhp man & 2.6 auto which is semi retired.

Sorry no photos at present. Is it difficult to post these?

    Real easy to post pics...

Upload the picture using this webpage:
    http://wthax.org/
And just copy and paste the code it gives you after into a reply here.

Alternatively you can just "attach" an image by clicking on the paperclip icon (attach.gif) above your draft reply, and follow the instructions.

Nice car with a lovely V8, the way to go. What's the bodywork like?

I'll take a few photos and try & upload.

    Thank you.

Shines up nicely. No doubt a bit rough underneath in parts but nothing terminal I think. Most importantly - nice and reliable. :)

    Good luck with your pics...

The most under valued and rare Merc which is unique, is my car..............
190E 2.5-16. Get one of those as values are low put starting to rise slowly. Totally different than any other 20yr old Merc and you can get an auto version as well.

That's a top tip which hopefully you'll be thanking me in kind very soon, cash only I'm afraid! :)

Yep, set a reasonable figure for restoration and allow an extra 50% again. Worse than adding a house extension!

But the real secret I find to keeping costs 'under control' is to join the relevent club for you car & some good old fashioned research. I always hear of people complaining how much it's costing to overhaul their classic and many times they have either purchased the car without any real prior knowledge of the particular model or see everthing with rose tinted glasses until the hard facts come home to roost.
I've been guilty of this in the past too.

My latest car was purchsed in the U.K. after making several trips to view cars for sale. I ended up buying nearly the cheapest one I came across (not generally advisable) and allowed twice it's purchase cost on a rolling restoration. Well, I've done 30k mls in it over the last 20 months, spent twice its initial cost on it and still need to spend another few grand more. Never ending. But no complaints.

If it's the car you wanted it will be worth the cost I'm sure.
