Advice sought - RE: Press Releases.

    Hello all,

I am a media student and I am currently doing a project concerning press releases.
The writing and researching has been no problem but I seem to have run into a problem with regards as to whom I send it to.

In general, would I send a press release (more often than not about an upcoming concert or music related event) simply to the editor of magazines/newspapers or would it be a more specific person?

I've been using a few of the resources listed on this site and medialive too but would like to be specific rather than take a shotgun approach to it.

    Any details/advice/comments much appreciated.

    Thank you.

contact the various people you think may be interested in publicising the event and ask them for an email address to send the Press Release (ie, newspapers/magazines)

Alternatively - contact a PR Company and ask them the question that you just posted !!

Pick up the papers, see who's writing about a particular subject and email them.

Well, I emailed all the Irish papers and not one reply.

Perhaps best to single out the individual writers. Cheers.

Always got for indivulas as you dont realise how many press releases these people get every day...

Also a good subject line is key it has to stand out from the rest also be very careful with your spelling cause some are very picky when it comes to thing like that and would delete it straight away...

I'm an editor with a range of free sheet dublin newspapers and will be happy to read some press releases if you want to give them a shot.

I get hundreds of press releases every day, make sure the subject line is snappy and the first couple of lines. Pictures are always great as well.

    Good luck!
