Mystery Satellite of the north and south poles!?

The Discovery when it was made caused consternation in the united states defense department, and no wonder ..one of the north american air defense systems tracking radars had picked up what appeared to be a huge space satellite in orbit around earth.
what worried the americans was that the satellite had not been launched by either the united states or the soviet union.for a start it was in the wrong kind of orbit.
the mystery satellites path took it over the north and south poles, whereas the orbits of satellites launched from the soviet union were ivariably inclined at 65 degrees to the equator, which took them over south america and north africa, quite apart from that there was no booster rocket in existence, at the time what could possibly have been powerful enough to put such a satellite into orbit.american space scientists had calculated that its weight was around 15tons.
The americans kept the satellite under surveillance, then it vanished as mysteriously as it had appeared ... 3 weeks later.
the US department of defense appointed clyde w. tombaugh to run a search for the media named 'THE BLACK KNIGHT,AKA Mystery object.he had discovered pluto in 1930.the pentagon never formally released the results of its finding.
then on febraury 24, 1960 the defense department announced that anericans could relax the mystery satellite was no longer a mystery but was the discoverer v capsule...Nothing could be farther from the truth even if it was the discoverer v capsule there is still at least four other mystery abjects whizzing around our planet!?
According to the director of the moonwatch team this is a fact!
there are also satellites that have vanished while in orbit ...
.......................SO the question is simple, are there mystery satellites, watching us!?,keeping an eye on us!? ...or controling our weather[as in controling life on this planet]!!!!????

Mostly from books[to name just one its not new to unexplained phenomena aerial]the books name is' ufo's',;robert jackson;,he has written over 60 books on historical ,military, scientific and supernatural themes and written many articles on unexplained aerial phenomena ... the press labelled the object the black knight. it was extensively disscussed in the new york times, newsweek, life and other major periodicals,of which i read,in a book i dont have any more:(:)http://www.mumeson.org/content/view/115/131/

I'm sure you were expecting this question as much as I'm expecting the answer, but is there any non-ufo/conspiracy site that you can get information from this?

http://www.roswellproof.com/Satellites_Keyhoe_May1954.html mystery sattellites:eek:,this is before the 1960 event!

Hardly proof, or even evidence, is it? A UFO writer tells a reporter that someone told him that someone had told them that they saw a UFO.

It all sounds like that Valis thing that Philip K Dick wrote about.

didnt he write things related to the black knight in 1974, the event happened in 1960 or as far back as 1954, you'd be hard pressed to find proof or even evidence ,and if i had both i'd be selling it,but not here, i feel its a conspiracy non the less, and even if the black knight of 1960 was the discoverer v capsule!?, there's still more junk in orbit that could turn out to be a mystery satellite!!

Sorry, I should of explained what I meant by bringing him into it. Philip K Dick wrote about Valis and I'm not sure but I think he felt there was truth in it. For those who don't know the basic idea behind Valis is an entity orbiting the Earth beaming messages into certain peoples brains. Different people say it's different things, like maybe an alien probe, or a computer from the future or even a covert government satellite.

I brought up Valis, because if the story is true, it sounds like the entity that Dick wrote about. So maybe he wasn't fully crazy after all (although the drink and drugs probably didn't help him look sane!).

Polar orbiting satellites were in existence and not all that uncommon in the 1960s. For example:

"The POES program began in 1960 with the launch of TIROS-1. Later satellites in the Improved TIROS Operational Satellite (ITOS) program were expanded to capture concurrent multiple-channel data on a daily basis."

The original Saturn I rocket designed in 1957 and used in the early 1960s by the USA had a third stage payload of 15,600 kms (34,392 lbs or 17.2 tons)? Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturn_I

This original Saturn I rocket payload could have launched a 15 ton satellite? Or perhaps just a third stage piece of junk polar orbiting the Earth?

He claimed to have found a planet Pluto? And in 2006 it was demoted to dwarf status (in the company of 43 others), so he was in error to some extent in terms of our more sophisticated technology of today?

It very well could be space junk, or meteors that were orbiting the Earth just like satellites?

Burned up entering Earth's atmosphere or skipped out of orbit, leaving Earth's gravitation pull to fly elsewhere?

Yes, and they go by the nick name No Such Agency.

Always a possibility with what the Native Americans called speaking with forked tongue?

the polar satellites,or the poes program did not orbit the poles and[the black knight was very had to keep an eye on as was its speed]you have to remember it was at low orbit and its speed was normal, skywatchers at time could always give you the right speed and path if you will.the saturn I was designed in 1957 but did not have the the power to lauch something that big til its first lauch in 1961 ... The missing satellites did not re-enter nor did they change there speed or paths or show any sign to the experts,[ in terms of signals ]that anything was wrong and when asked they didnt have an answer [one e.g satcom 3]...so from my understanding the info i have read still stands and even if not there is still B.Ks from as far back as 1954 to be answered for!?

There was more than one POES (Polar Orbiting Environmental Satellites) programme. One was called the DMSP-POES run by the US Department of Defense:

"The DMSP program designs, builds, launches, and maintains several near polar orbiting, sun synchronous satellites monitoring the meteorological, oceanographic, and solar-terrestrial physics environments."

    Source: http://ww2010.atmos.uiuc.edu/(Gh)/wwhlpr/dmsp_poes.rxml?hret=/guides/rs/sat/poes/home.rxml

"NOAA Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellites (POES) are three-axis-stabilized spacecrafts that are launched into an orbit 830-870 kilometers high, constantly circling the Earth in an almost north-south orbit, passing close to both poles."

    Source: http://ww2010.atmos.uiuc.edu/(Gh)/wwhlpr/noaa_poes.rxml?hret=/guides/rs/sat/poes/home.rxml

Do you have any scholarly sources that would suggest that such a polar orbiting object exists other than Flying Saucer magazine  and a couple of old newspaper reports that are obviously not regarded as reliable by the scientific community?

Even if this so called mystery object did exist, a meteor that chanced into a polar orbit about the Earth has not been ruled out.

Furthermore, with all the astronomers of the many nations that would be able to observe a 15 ton object in polar orbit, I find it extremely unlikely that such an object would not have been reported by several scientific sources in scholarly publications about the world, making it highly improbable that the US government (or even more unlikely an agreement among several governments), could keep it a secret and thereby merit the label of "conspiracy."

Part of the problem with Governments is that they are Not open and up front, which causes all types of rumors to take flight but i do understand security risks, because of the cold war, but i think there is information some where ... they dont share or maybe they start rumors themselfs to hide their own activities - Disinformation ... The scientific community at that time would in no way write or even study this topic i dont think they were so open or maybe afraid it might affect their carrer or there lifes[cold war comes to mind again] and not for the good. And since this is the world we live, disinformation or tryin to find valid proof for everyone to agree on is a mission impossible, nor would i even try, to prove anything to anyone. However i will always have to wonder, because there is still no explanation for the black knight ...
but i take on board.ie your points and ill have to keep studyin for now.

How many environmental satellites were in orbit in 1960!?
    http://goespoes.gsfc.nasa.gov/poes/timeline_1.html
THE FIRST was in april 1960 only two were in orbit in 1960 but by 1961 there was 115 known satellites.

so the environmental satellites were put in orbit in april 1960,After the B k.. if you look at the dates,i still could be missing something i dont know!?
