Hi Folks, mates car arrived to work this morning leaking water.
So far it looks like it just "vomited" through the coolant reservoir, a quick look didn't show any other leaks.
It's down quite low on water - none shows on the reservoir. Mate thinks the fan isn't working.... I can trip/test this through the thermostat wires right? Traffic was heavy enough this morning maybe it was just the fan that triggered the whole thing... there's no mayonaise in the coolant - I forgot to check the oil.

can you tell me what antifreeze/coolant I can put in it? Do alfa do a special or can I mix any other one in?????

I had same issue with my 147 this time last year. Any coolant will do until can get it to garage. They will presure test to see if any leaks in system.

Also ask them to check water pump. This was what was wrong with mine. One of the 3 mounting brackets had sheared off. Took 3 visits to garage to find problem. It would be okay for a few days, then other days it would just p!ss out the coolant.

    Hopefully its an easy fix.-

check the pipe going to cabin. There is a some vent screw check if that is not worn. I had the same problem and that was screws fault. Was broken. Easy to fix.

    Thanks for the help folks

The expansion tank was cracked... 1.5 inch on the very top but it didn't show until it got wet. What ya reckon - new one is a must rather than breakers yard... the tank looked fairly degraded. How much and where is a good place (we're in clonskeagh) to get a new tank?

BTW it took 2 litres to get it near the top of the expansion bottle... musta been pretty low.

Second hand one will do the job or new one won't be that much.
