Hills, Thrills and Spills. North County Farmers (NCF) Host their second cross county of the year .Wednesday night (tomorrow night) 11 March 2009 at 8pm at Malahide Rugby Club. This follows on from the very successful 5 Mile in swords at the start of the year. I wonder will the ever enjoyable hurdles make an appearance again or what surprises Paul Barnwall and friends have in store!
This was an interesting race when put on for the first time last year. It is the only flood light race in Dublin

Directions: Malahide Rugby Club is located along Broadmeadow Estuary and can be accessed from the Fingallians roundabout. If you go north along the M1, turn left at the Lissenhall roundabout onto the old Belfast road. At the Fingallians roundabout, take a left and go under the motorway and onto Estuary Road. The race venue is 1.2 miles from the roundabout.
For more information, contact Paul Barnwall (087-2329577) or Robert McNamara (087-6991242).

Any chance i would get away with wearing regular runners for this. and if i ran approx 22mins or so would i be closer to mid field than last or vice versa?

I'd say you'd be closer to mid field.

anyone have any advice on the best way to get to this race on public transport-bus/dart?
The dart will leave you about 2 miles from the rugby club, I think there is a bus 102 that goes from the station very close to the ground.
Also the 42 goes past the yellow walls road thats as close as I can see a bus route going.

The 102 is the best option alright. Get off at Seabury church/shops and walk down towards the water. Follow the road around to the left and the rugby club is there. Wish I could make it myself, but can't unfortunately...

Hey! I happen to be around dublin today.. it's a possibility - don't have gear though - what's that brown stuff on the map - could you do it barefoot..? I am okay with jogging barefoot on grass or mud but a small patch of gravel has me crawling on my hands and knees.

I wouldn't fancy running barefoot around other people with spikes on.

Pictures from tonights race can now be found here. More will appear in the next hour or so as the upload finishes. The bib numbers are not tagged as well as with other races though but I was struggling a bit with the light.

Did that as a kid and have a lovely slash scar on my foot ever since.

I did spot a pair of bare feet in one of the pictures whilst uploading. Is mrak the long lost brother of Zola Bud?

Would have worn spikes if I had them with me. Was fine apart from the stony bit where it crossed the path and the odd slippy corner. Thought there was still one lap to go at the end - lovely course.

I really enjoyed the race. A little warm breeze and very good surface. I liked the use of tractor roof lights to illuminate the dark corner. And a little sprint to the finish to prevent being overtaken always feels good even when you know half a mile earlier you wanted to pull up and stop.
