I'm in the market for a 17" laptop at the moment but am having trouble thinking outside the box. Been looking at the Dell Studio 1737 for ages and even got one to try last week. The LED screen blew me away but the sound was awful (though the particular unit I had did have a faulty speaker on the left side so couldn't check for sure). I was also looking at a HP DV7-1020ea but haven't seen one readily available lately, seems they've been discontinued.

    My requirements are as follows:

    1440x900 screen resolution or higher
    Core 2 Duo processor
    Internal Bluetooth
NVIDIA if possible, something like the 9600M GT. I'm aware of the bad bumps issue but find the rendering quality better with AA on.
Must have wireless with 5 GHz support
    Numeric keypad on the keyboard

I won't be using it too much for gaming, I have a few specific ones I use and none are too heavy on graphics.

    Any recommendations for me? :)

    MSI GT725.
    P9500 (2.53Ghz, o/c to 2.9Ghz), HD4850, Blu-ray, 1680x1050, 500Gb, 4Gb, e-sata, HDMI, 9-cell, 2yr warranty. Fancy speaker stuff. 10,000+ 3DMark06

About €1350 on elara.ie, or closer to €1200 from some of the UK stores. That could be above your budget, but then, you didn't mention a budget so :p

No you're spot on. Budget-wise I'd be willing to spend between €1200 and €1300 tops. Probably should have mentioned that.

I found another HP with a similar spec to the one I mentioned earlier., it's the DV7-1135ea:

    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ie/en/ho/WF06b/321957-321957-3329744-64354-64354-3756677-3816596.html#null

It has a fingerprint sensor and two 250GB disks, they seem to be the main differences. However I can only find it on laptopsdirect.ie and I haven't heard good stories about them.
