Sky Multiroom & Alternatives

Would really appreciate some help on this.

Plan to put an additional TV in the kitchen.
Have Sky+HD already in the sitting room
Still have old sky box (if its any use)

The price for multiroom 150 install+box and 14.75pm is just too much for me.
So, what are the alternatives? If say I just wanted to split the signal from my Sky HD box? I realise I'll have to watch the same channel. How would I go about this if there is no coax ran to the kitchen. Any usable video senders?(I've heard quality is poor) or what other ways to send the signal. Can I run an additional cable off the sat itself?

Also, is my old sky box any use here? Can I use this to watch the free to air channels?

    All help greatly appreciated!

You can get a dish installer to install a new LNB onto your dish and get it cabled to your old sky box - that way you won't pay those excessive charges. Downside is you will only be able to view free to air channels on that box.

    Hope this helps

The OP doesn't need a new LNB to use his old box, as with Sky+HD, he would have a quad LNB already.

Anyway. If the sitting room and kitchen aren't too far apart, then a video sender might work OK. As long as you don't have wifi internet in the house (I've found wifi to interfere with my video sender).

Doh! Have wifi in the house. Also I noticed the senders use 2.4Ghz which is what most cordless phones and baby monitors use. And guess who uses both!

On the LNB thing. I'd be happy with the free to air channels. So can I just run a coax from the dish to my old box? What the connection at the dish? F?

    Thanks.

Yes, if you can run a cable from a spare LNB outlet you'll have access to all the FTA programmes on the Digibox. :)

Well, if you're happy enough with just FTA channels, then definitely go the route of wiring a cable out to the dish to use your old box.
