    Hi

Sorry if this is being covered elsewhere on boards. Couldn't find anything.

Just wondering if anyone else is watching this programme on RTE1. Tells the story of a family of a teenager who commited suicide.

i only tuned in a few minutes ago. its very sad and very tought provoking.

looks like its one of a 3 part series: http://www.rte.ie/tv/iseeadarkness/

Good to see something like this being done on such a taboo subject.... sweeping things under the carpet doesn't make them go away.... i really feel for the family involved.

Well that's a very good idea for a program. Especially in this day and age! I've heard of a couple of suicides this year (friends of friends, awful to go through) and I'm glad that RTE are tackling this head-on. Haven't heard anything about the show, but thanks for the heads up.

no worries. ya everyone seems to know someone affected at this stage. i was surprised to see the programme being done tbh. normally its something that the media won't cover in case of copycat incidents. i can't see that being much of an issue though with this programme as it really shows the pain that the family go through after...

These kind of programs can be counter-productive, as it may put ideas in depressed people's minds, i'm not saying the subject should be swept under the carpet but watching these type of programs doesn't exactly leave you in a positive frame of mind.

i'd imagine that everyone's experiences of watching such a programme would be different, but speaking not as someone on who attempted suicide but as someone who was seriously considering it, i was left with very mixed feelings after watching the programme.

overall, though, i had thought at the time that my family would be better off without me, and it was thought that the victim in the programme probably felt the same, but it was very interesting to see how the family were affecter afterwards. at the time i was convinced that i just couldn't go on anymore, and that my family were better off without me, but it was evident that for the family in this programme at least that nothing could be further from the truth. it was good to see the other side of the coin...

It was a great programme that really carried a strong message.

Fair play to the family and friends involved in what must have been difficult interviews.

Like Zippie84 I think listening to, esp his older brother Wayne, let us know what he believed was powerful. Suicide is not brave nor cowardly like he said. Suicide comes from an unbalanced state of mind. People who are depressed can be v lonely, v low and it is their mind that tells them suicide is the only way out of the pain.

I know, I've been there but never got as far as Simon Thank God.

I really do not think anyone who commits suicide will only have decided to kill themselves after watching a telelvision programme.

Chances are the ideas are already in their heads, though that might depend on the severity of the depression or other distress.
