Does anyone have experience with 406's. My 01 diesel is a bit hard to start, she turns over a few times more than starting any other diesel and nearly didn't get going this morning. The heater light only stays on for 1 second.
    Any ideas?

After the preheat light goes out, wait another 10 secs or so and see if it starts readily. I've tried this a few times on other makes and it often does the trick.

Sounds like one of the fuel injectors is about to go, or has already gone.

Most diesels use a common fuel rail so if one injector goes the car won’t start. It’s a bit like when the immobilizer kicks in. Has the car been smokey lately?

Did you try a new battery? Our terrano glow plugs always took the same time to heat up, but took longer to fire. Anyway a new battery solved the problem.

Try that before jumping to drastic conclusions about the common rail.

Are there any faults been displayed....??
I know there were fuel pump issues with the early Hdi's..
(Thats the lift pump in the tank)
it may be worth changing the fuel filter first....;)
On most hdi's the heater plugs don't kick in till -10 deg C so its more that
    lightly a fuel problem...:)
    Row.

Hows the fuel filter? If this has been 'developing' problem you could have a filter thats gummed up.
