    It already has ....

    "premium videos from artists on EMI, Universal, Warner and Sony BMG and some indie labels have started to disappear for UK viewers and will be systematically removed over the next few days."

    I dont get why they would want that. Who actually buys music videos? Surely its free promotion of the songs?

    If you read the article it might appear clearer. Who knows the exact details?

    I have had several of my you tube videos blocked due to 'matched 3rd party content '.Some were after they had had several thousend views and others as soon as they were uplaoded .I wouldn't mind but I made a great '**** off ' video images ( well I thought so ) to go with Jimi Hendrix's ' all along the watchtower ' :(

    You may be right Mike. It looks to me it's Google throwing the toys out of the pram to put pressure on the PRS .... but that's only reading 'tween the lines in this report.

    wrong way round

    youtube are taking them down to spite them pretty much

    imo thats the way it needs to be done now. if these companies start looking for ridiculous money or start opening law suits, just completely remove and block every artist to do with them from your site

    theyll come crawling back pretty sharp when they realise how important the internet actually is to them

    Well , you tube send you an email stating video has being stopped due to 3rd party content , which I assume to be infringement of coyright ( below)

    Your video, - - - may have audio content from - - - by Al
    that is owned or licensed by WMG.

    As a result, your video has been blocked worldwide.
    What should I do?

    Use AudioSwap to replace the audio in your video with a track from our library of prelicensed songs. After you've swapped, your video will be available globally.

    Under certain circumstances, you may dispute the copyright claim from WMG. These may be any of the following:

    the content is mistakenly identified and is actually completely your original creation;

    you believe that your use does not infringe copyright (e.g. it is fair use under US law);

    you are actually licensed by the owner to use this content.

    However , It hasn't stopped me from uploading other songs/tracks from other major artists .Hope the change doesn't stop me continuing a fav hobby of mine :)

    Take the whole beatles back catalogue for instance ,it's all there on you tube .

    Do you know how this IDing process works? Is it just people reporting it?

    Not to sure .I suppose their is nothing to stop anybody reporting a you tube track as misuse of copyright but I suspect the record labels are working on behalf of some artists in question to protect their stuff in the same way illigal downloads are protected and you tube must have this in the rules to cover their own backs . However you tube also will allow you to upload some tracks because the artist and record company accept that this is another form of highliging the track /artist to the world at large ( possibly increasing record sales ) So it's swings and roundabouts at the moement .This I had pointed out to me when I sucessfully uploaded a Mowtown track recently .

    I was wondering what was with those videos and why people were making them, makes sense now. It's a fine line IMO between that and ripping it off.
    It's like doing a mix tape for someone, it's probably more likely to persuade that person to buy an album they might not have.

    My take on it is it's an important time for both parties, in all likeness You Tube and such entities are becoming if not already as big a player as any national broadcaster in terms of advertising revenue and listenership/viewership. Therefore it's only right that the musicians and recording companies have a share of this, since it's at the expense of the broadcasting revenue. (it would be interesting to dig up some figures on Googles advertising earnings and page views in a country compared to a similar list of radio or television numbers and advertising revenue)

    If your music is broadcast to a couple of hundred thousand on television and you receive a royalty for it. Why shouldn't you receive a royalty for a similar amount of hits online unless of course you really do want to give it away!!!
