What is 'Brake Wheel Unit' in WV Bora

    Hi everyone,

Ok my 2001 car failed its NCT and it failed on the 'brake wheel unit (51)' on the Offside rear - as it was defective/sticking.

What is it and what does it do and will it cost a fortune to repair - he told me it was cracked.

    Thanks

    Unhappy Camper:mad:

Sounds like there is something wrong with your right rear brake caliper. Have it checked by your regular mechanic.

    Item 51: brake wheel units

    Reasons for refusal:

    (1) a hydraulic brake unit is insecurely mounted.

    (2) a hydraulic brake unit is leaking.

    (3) a hydraulic brake unit is sluggish in operation or is seized.

if he said it was cracked i presume he meant ur break disc

It was probably a brake hose if it was cracked, more likely than a cracked disc.

If it is the hose, it should cost well under €50, plus about an hours labour to replace and bleed the system.

A cracked hose does sound like it could well be the culprit. A defective disc falls under section 52 (mechanical brake components). 51 relates to hydraulic brake components.

On the brake imbalance data for that axle, is the imbalance failing at over 30%?
