    Hi all

I was at my brother in laws at the weekend and he was asking is it possible to get a separate modem to say put in the attic and plug his 3G broadband dongle into this and then just connect up wirelessly downstairs on his laptop. He has a very poor reception downstairs but if he goes up to the attic it is very strong. Would this be a standard router (if it is possible)? He asked in a few shops but they didnt know.

    Cheers

+1 please. I was thinking of setting up a small home server as a gateway for the Wii, netradio and OH's PC but if I can avoid that hassle it would be great.

Edimax 3G-6200WG 3G Router available from a number of Irish high street outlets. Obviously haven't tried it yet though.

Is the Dovado on the sticky not a better alternative?

I prefer the Dlink, Nextgear and Linksys...
The Dlink DIR450/DIR451 worked well for me.

I tested those three on 3G, but the Dovado I tested was a PCMCIA version not on 3G. If Dovado want to send me their current model and suitable USB modem with Subscription to O2 (because I tested the others on O2) I can review it :)

The Solwise is cheap. But I have no idea how well it works.

It depends what you want. I'd use an old PC or Laptop with Linux if I wanted features and spending less money.

Dovado was a pretty tiny outfit till they started doing 3G versions of their routers, oringinally intended for more obscure systems such as iBurst, IPW, Flash-OFDM etc.

    Dovado support is good.

But most people getting a consumer product shouldn't need support.
