Hi folks, I was transporting a drum of kerosine in my car today and it spilled out. i am guessing around 5 litres spilled into the footwell of the car.

I own an 01 zafria and having read some reviews online (here and elsewhere) i know that the electrics module is in the floor somewhere.

so... anyone know how to clean out the kerosine? will the smell fade? is it dangerous to drive it?

and any other problems i may not have thought of? and yes i know that i am a complete idiot for spilling it.

    em...dont smoke in the car!

Seriously though, maybe a good valeter might be able to shampoo it out

dont laugh, my wife was smoking when i spilled it. telling her to put out the fag is what made me spill it in the first place. :)

LOL! You coven't write that. I'd say give a few valeters a shout tomorrow. They have proper industrial machines that should do it without a bother

Any soap-based cleaner will work fine. Start with a bit of dishwashing liquid soap like Dawn in a bucket of hot water and mop, mop, and wipe.

Kerosene is a what's called a non-polar molecule, water is a polar molecule, they don't mix well together. But adding soap changes that Soap is a long molecule that's polar on one end and nonpoler on the other so it mixes well with both and as such, causes both to mix together. *

usually you can get a full car valet for 100-150 from a decent place. If you ask them just to do the patch where its spilled instead it couldn't cost that much
