Pleasant experience, couple of questions

So my car was broken into earlier. Usual craic, stereo and satnav gone (silly of me to leave it exposed really) and passenger window in smithereens. Called up the Guards in Store St. Very friendly Garda walked round very quickly indeed and while she took details a colleague arrived. Very friendly folks and I have to compliment them on that, they really couldn't have been more helpful.

My questions are these: they mentioned I could have the car technically examined. They said however, that this can take up to a week during which I'd be without my car - so I declined. Anyone in DMR any experience with this and is that an accurate timescale? I take it this is just fingerprints also, or what other sort of things do they do to the car?

I kind of wish I had let them, leading to my second question - the screwdriver used to break the window was left in situ, and they mentioned fingerprints would be hard to get. I meant to ask them to take it anyway, but forgot - anyone any idea if it would have made any difference? Just to satisfy my curiosity. I'm sort of fretting over whether I could have got something out of it as the Satnav had my address etc in it and that worries me for obvious reasons.

Anyway wanted to point out the great response and attitude from the Guards - they won't see this but sure that's not the point. You see so many Garda bashing threads and yet I've never ever had a bad experience. They also pretended not to notice that my tax was out of date by a week, which was nice of them - fair play. :D

Just to reierate the above point,

I was assaulted a few months back and the Gardaí were called, two young lads from Store St. also.
They couldn't have been any nicer either then or in the subsequent phone calls (checkups as to how i was getting on, was my nose broken etc.), and when I went in to make a statement it was all very comfortable and relaxed.
Besides giving the statement we ended up chatting about cars and their uniforms and how they get shafted around the place and just totally random sh1t.

Sorry to go off topic, but I'd never posted my experience with the Gardaí and I think the praise is deserved.

PS: sorry to hear about your car, at least they didn't take it.

The area i'm currently working gets alot of these types of calls. I'll always ask the person if they want the car to be T.E and I always point out that this could take anything from 24 hours up to a couple of days. So basically yeah the time scale could be correct this all depends on how busy the Scenes of crime lads are. I wouldn't worry to much about the sat nav having your address they dont get a set of keys to your house however I wouldn't advise anyone to save there address as "Home" in a gps just in case your car is taken with keys.

I would say that for store street this would be reasonable estimate

I had a great experiance with the Gardai aswell.

Was after an assault and they couldent have been friendlier. As pointed out all you ever hear is the Gardai bashing and never the praising.I,nor my family have never had a bad experiance with the Gardai.

Well, while we're on the subject I also had a pleasant experience with the Gardai this week.. I witnessed a very intoxicated driver cause an accident a few days ago and went to give a statement to a very friendly, relaxed Garda who even took the time to give me advice about the job and Templemore when I told him I had applied for the Guards.. And in fact the other Guards in the station were very friendly aswel.. Nice to go in to a relaxed atmosphere.

Sounds like it could be down to the workload of the SOC members in that area. In other parts of the city someone might be able to call out and TE a vehicle in the same shift or the next day usually.
