Can anyone give a definitive answer on whether a car thats serviced within warranty not by the official manufacturer dealer renders it invalid?

I'm about to get a few quotes from the manufacturers dealers in the next few days but I know someone that is a top mechanic in a dealership, not the manufacturer of my car, but if I supply him with the oil, etc, will come to the house, service the car and stamp the book.

    Will this cover my warranty?

Is he stamping it with the stamp of the dealer he works for?It wont check out if someone buying it down the line rings the dealer to check if they serviced the car though will it? If the receptionist or whoever answers the phone looks up the reg it wont show up as having been in the garage at all.

Get it done by a normal independant garage who are VAT registered. Use parts & oil of a standard at least equal to those approved by manufacturer. If you do this and have an invoice/garage stamp and some evidence that proper service parts were used, then your warranty is 100% valid. In my opinion, the indy garage stamp will not devalue the car in any way if you keep the invoice and any other paperwork in relation to parts used etc.

+1 on all of the above. Whenever i've traded in a car i've never once been asked about service history. If i mention a full one, no one has ever asked if it was a main dealer history or not either

its more to do with the remaining 11 months warranty that I don't want to jeopardise.

Also just to mention I will be getting a price from the main independent mechanic in dublin who is well respected

so long as the parts and consumables are original parts, and the garage is VAT registered you wont have any warranty problems. Do a quick google of the eu block exemption regulations and its all in there

    +1.

Be sure that you can prove that the correct parts and oil specification were fitted and you will have no problem. Ensure that the mechanic uses genuine parts - anything else may cause problems should you have a warranty issue that questions the replacement parts.

You can take your vehicle to any Independent garage. Many people are wasting there money as they feel that they have to get there car serviced at the garage they brought there car from or a garage which only does there specific make. It is far cheaper to get your vehicle serviced at a local garage, who uses geniene parts only (must Be) who stamps your service book and supplies you with a repair invoice with lab our costs and parts. Most garages will use geniene parts but make sure that they are aware that the vehicle is still in warranty. They will seek the parts from there local dealership at a reduced cost and service your car at a reduced cost. Dealerships charge alot for servicing!!!
