I was claiming part time JSA with my job until i got let go in January from my job and i want went in to change it back to the full JSA. Everything was done but they needed my P45 from my workplace before they could release any payments. After waiting over a month for my P45 and i finally got it and handed it straight in. But then i went in today cause i got no respnse and they told me my claim was closed!! basically cause they were waiting so long for my p45(which was my employers fault) So now i have to go in and reopen the claim, they said it was a repeat claim, so i dont have to go through the paper work again.
Really all im wondering is does anyone know

    1. How long will i have to wait for my payments?, Is it the average time like anyone else or maybe not as long because of the situation.

    2. Can i backdate it to the day i was let go from work or what?

It gets backdated from the day you sign on.

Usually if you have all your documentation in it takes 3 working days for claims to go through.

If you are stuck for money you can go to the Community Welfare Officer who pay you until the claim comes through.

You can also apply for fuel allowance it's an extra 23.90 on top of your 204.80 to help towards ESB bills

Ya i was thinking about going to the community welfare officer but wasn't sure how i go about it. If it doesn't take too long like you said for me to get my payments then i wont bother. Just glad to know il get all the backdated payments, thats a relief.
    Cheers for that.

Ah, that's a bummer, but unfortunately if you don't have all your documentation in within the allocated time frame, your claim will automatically close. You can off course ask for your claim to be back dated to the original date.

Contrary to advise given above, you can't apply for fuel allowance - this is only available to long term unemployed, on only to those on Jobseeker's Allowance, (not benefit)

In the meantime you may be eligible to apply for supplementary welfare allowance - from your local health board.

If they won't backdate your claim appeal it. If you couldn't get stuff from your employer you've a good case, it's not as if you disappeared or anything, it wasn't available.

Last year when I had trouble getting my P45, there was a deadline on my form that said when they needed it by. I made sure to call them before that date and let them know that I was still waiting for the P45, and then called them every two weeks after.

This way, my claim was backdated when I eventually reported them to the revenue for withholding my P45 (I cced the welfare office on this letter and my claim started the next week, although at the time the backlog wasn't what it is today)

Ask for an appeal form and put on it you want your claim backdated to when you first sign on. Just put the circumstances down , the exchange will forward it to the appeals office. If you have a decent case the exchange have to re-examine it and might just backdate it and not go through the hassle of an appeal.

    Fight on anyway!

You have 21 days from the date of the decision you received.

Set out your case clearly. State the facts. Don't call anybody a tool or a tosser, be reasonable.

Say, this is what happened and why, that you think you're entitled to have your claim backdated because....

If you get an oral hearing be reasonable and don't call anyone a tosser, no matter how much you might want to, just set out the facts.

And whatever you do, don't be one of those people who say "You'd pay me if I was black". Don't ever say that. Ever. Ever.
