GAA Awards dinner/dance... what to wear?

They boyfriend's GAA club awards dinner/dance is on soon and he wants to take me with him. He told me "the lads wear suits and the girls wear dresses". When I asked what kind of dresses, he told me "you know, the ones with flouncy bits and stuff that girls wear". So as you can see, that doesn't really help. Does anyone have any ideas? Are these things normally a blacktie dresscode or cocktailwear? Thanks for your help in advance.

Been to a few of these in my time- it usually cocktail dresses. Think casual wedding or even afters of a wedding.

Ive worn knee length Coast dress and also just pencil skirt and top to couple of them.

Anything goes really- just not too OTT.

Wellies, jeans, Leitrim jersey tucked into jeans, O Neills shoulder bag (loaded with home made sandwiches) and a pair of county-coloured earrings.

Only kidding, I'm a League of Ireland 'Britball' man to the core :pac:

Based on the one of these I attended (and dont ask about how that came about) its casual-nice. Cocktail dresses would be perfect advice, as suggested above.

As everyone has already said- anything really goes. I was at one recently, and there were girls dressed in full length dresses, mid calf length dresses, knee high dresses, and even shorter. Personally I usually wear knee length or above the knee dresses.

I wouldn't be worried about having to spend a fortune, Im sure u would have somethin in the wardrobe to wear!!! But be forewarned- the local papers are often there so u might want to look your best!!!

You will also see/ hear of people who spend the whole day preppin- going to a tanning salon, hairdressers and make up artist.. To be honest its a waste of money, IMO!

That's great help guys, thanks a million. Going with simple black strapless evening dress and subtle hair and makeup with a pair of motherf*cker earrings. Gotta give the paps something to snap at! ;)
