I just bought a car and ive been given an option on the warranty. Ive the option between 3 months labour and parts or 6 months parts. I live around 1 hour away from the garage. Any advice on which warranty to take up?

I would take the 3 month parts and labour, if the car does have something wrong with it you will find out in those 3 months. Just make sure it is a decent warranty, get him to explain any exclusions and get it in writing.

I would tell them I want 6 months parts & labour and walk away if you dont get it

3 months is plenty for you to find out any major faults. While the 6 month sounds appealing, it could be easy to make up the cost on the labour side if something goes wrong...

Unless of course its an older car i.e 7 or 8 years old in which case 3 months is great. But if its a fairly fresh car i.e 3 or 4 years old then I'd insist on longer maybe a year. Labour is the expensive bit so take what you will from that but if its gonna blow up it will probably do it in 2 weeks not 6 months :)

Hi most vehicles nowadays come with a 3-6month warranty. I would try and push for a 6 month warranty parts and labour as someone stated above. Be wary with the warranty as it mainly covers things which are very unlikely to go like the engine blows up. Most warranties on secondhand cars don't cover wear and tear and broken fascias and etc. Always go for the parts and labour unless you know a really cheap mechanic who can fit any faulty parts for you. If not then parts and labour.

Personally I would hold out on the 6month warranty maybe would of best to of says this before buying the car but just ask. At the end of the day you probably paid higher than you have done privately for this car so you have paid good money so see what he says. Likely hood nothing will go wrong with the car anyway so if he was a geniene decent garage he would offer this.
