    Hi All

Is it possible to become a chartered Engineer with out Beng Level 8 qualifications? Ive read the requiremnts from another thread on this site and it states that Beng Level 8 is the min requirement but there are some exemptions...

Has anyone become chartered via a different route?

My prediciment so far is My degree is level 8 Science / Engineering / Business related

I found out that its not accreditated by IEI but is accredated by Institute of Engineering Designers.

Now for the twist my supervisor who is a Head of Dept in one of Irelands Universities wants me to do a Msc through distant learning.

Again the Msc is not accredated by IEI but he assures that i will become chartered on completion + 2 more years experience

Am i wasting my if im going to hit a brick wall

Any coments / experiences are welcome

I asked the same question in DIT. There are some exceptions, but they are few and far between was the reply that I got.

I think the process is longer and harder. best people to talk to are the IEI and ask them

I came across a similar problem when I applied for normal membership of the IEI. I hold a BTech in Electronic Engineering, which is a level 8 engineering qualification. However, the IEI don't recognoise it as it didn't require honours leaving cert Maths for entry. In this case they awarded me associate membership. This is the same award as for level 7 courses. If I want to become a normal member, the first step to becoming a chartered eng, I have to submit a report detailing my mathematical competencies from my work experience post graduation. I suspect, that you would be able to do the same. I assume you were awarded associate membership? If so, contact the IEI and get details of the report required to get upgraded to normal membership. If your aim is to become chartered, I wouldn't do that masters you mentioned. Get some work experience or do an accreditted masters. The work experience would be easier though.
