    Evening all,

I was asked to post a short thread on boards for the Xmusic store:

Basically the guys out there are looking for performers to entertain the masses on a Saturday and possibily a Sunday. The general idea focusing on Singer/Songwriters and acoustic musicians. It'd be a short set in the main
room in the store. Obviously great expsure and fun to be had by all :)

If anyone is interested please PM or reply to me here and I'll forward on your details to those in charge.

    Thanks all!

    J808

Will the artists be paid in cash or store credit? And how much is on offer? Or is this another exploitation disguised as 'an opportunity for exposure'?

By all means ask about the financial terms, but it's not cool hijacking the thread mentioning words like 'exploitation' especially as they are just a music store and not a music promoter. Such comments might help assume guilt by association.

Yep we've a load of sweatshop workers out the back as well.

Anyway the whole gig instore idea has changed a bit.

The gigs will probably be happening once a month. A gig once a week would just be too crazy.

Basically the idea that were trying to put into place is that were looking for artists that have a single or album released.

We'll stock the cd in the shop for a month coming up to the gig, and play the cd in the shop with a "now playing" display on the counter and a "playing on whatever date sign"

All profits from CD sales will go back to the artist - we don't keep anything and at the end of the month the band come in and do an instore gig.

They can also sell their merchandise on the gig day from their own stall.

No cost to anyone, except our electricity bill.

It may or may not happen - depends on the demand and the logistics of it.

    Classy.

You are not spokesman for musicians. You are also not a mod. My post was completely on topic. It asked a very relevant question, and expressed a relevant opinion. Ironically, your little rant probably does more to hijack than my little post does.

And you are? Let's see what you asked:
Or is this another exploitation disguised as 'an opportunity for exposure'?
So, did you get an answer to your question then? Are you satisfied that everything is above order or are you on the blower to Siptu in your campaign to fight injustice against poor artists like yourself being 'exploited'? Come off it, it's just a gig ffs.

It's not rocket science but one would imagine playing to a music store audience would be beneficial for a lot of aspiring acts.

You've no excuses for your mental in-store prices so:pac::)

Sounds like a good arrangement for both parties if its arranged well. I hope it goes well.
No cost to anyone, except our electricity bill.

Now, now. Ever heard the term, 'time is money'? Petrol is pricey too. Sounds like you've got a fair enough arrangement, but lets not pretend that a musicians time has no value.
It may or may not happen - depends on the demand and the logistics of it.

I remember they used to do gigs in 'SoundControl' in London. They'd have bigger bands usually, but also up and comers. Real professional affair. The Belfast Guitar Emporium done a smaller acoustic thing too for a while. Be great to see such an effort in Dublin too. Best of luck.

Fortunately, I'm not a poor artist, but it would be great if musicians valued their time. For their own sakes, and the sakes of others.
being 'exploited'? Come off it, it's just a gig ffs.

I disagree, but if thats how you view it I'm not going to argue.
It's not rocket science but one would imagine playing to a music store audience would be beneficial for a lot of aspiring acts.

A bad, but extremely common attitude to have IMO. The teen bands that used to be on Echo-Island (old RTE kids show) were paid £150. That was exposure on our national broadcaster, and whatdeya know, paid. As i said though, I'm not here to hijack the thread, so I wont bicker over our differences of opinion on this one.

Will you support independent releases ?

    Any genres excluded ?
