Unlocked iPhone problem - not getting texts...

    Hi all,

    I started having problems a few months ago with my unlocked iPhone.

    Basically, if I send a text near enough to the same time that I receive one (or if two texts come in at near enough the same time) then I don't get the text. Now I know this happens because the phone freezes for about ten seconds and the last text I got (no matter how long beforehand) comes in a second time.

    I also "miss" texts when my phone has been inactive for a while.

    Anyone else have this problem?

    Anyone know how to sort it?

    Maybe give us a little more to go on here. What Network, 2G/3G?

    I've never heard of it before tbh

    Also what version of firmware.

    I am guessing it is a 1st Gen iPhone, is it?

    If it is, I am on a 1st Gen, unlocked, and have never had that problem.

    Thanks lads...

    It's a 16gig, 2g iPhone.

    No idea what firmware it is!

    Have it about ten months now. It's very irritating "missing" these texts so any help would be much appreciated.

    Settings->General->About->Version

    Network = Vodafone

    Version = 1.1.4 (4A102)

    Thanks pal!

    I was on 1.1.3 for a long while with Meteor, and never encountered this problem.

    So, a couple of things:

    1: do you have many extra applications installed? Any potential there for these to be causing the slowness?

    2: Could you do a restore, re-jailbreak, re-unlock to see if a bare-bones installation has the same problem?

    3: Alternatively, could you upgrade to 2.1 firmware to see if that will fix it?

    4: Could you try a SIM from a different network in the phone and see if it encounters the same problem?

    That's all I can think off the top of my head.

    Be careful that you don't upgrade it to 2.2.1 or you won't be able to unlock it again :eek:

    Not true, this is the 2G iPhone which will always be able to be unlocked no matter what Firmware is in use (this is the reason Apple hasn't updated the baseband for it in over a year).

    Oops, thought it was a 3g.

    Stephen is correct :). If you upgrade a 2G iPhone to 2.2.1 you can't unlock it, you have to downgrade it first to a version lower than 2.2.1.

    :)

    2.2.1 can be jailbroken on the 3G. You just have to be sure not to upgrade the firmware via itunes or you'll be permanently upgraded to baseband 02.30.03. Yellowsn0w will not work on this baseband...yet. To unlock the 3G, you must make a custom firmware with baseband 02.28 using PwnageTool. Or just download one ready made if you're a PC user.

    I know. I was referring to the 2G model.

    Sorry didn't mean to quote you above, was meant to be a general comment.

    Thanks for the advice but I would not have a clue how to do any of that!!!

    Was hoping it might be something a tad easier - thanks anyway!!!

    I found a solution to this... just in case anyone else had the problem.

    I deleted loads of texts and the problem just stopped.
