I reckon my 2001 Passat needs a battery change. Have to jump start it in the mornings.
I want to replace the battery myself, but I have heard it requires a reset at a dealer, is this true?
Can I just pop the new battery in and away I go?
Last thing I want is to take the battery out and having to get a tow to a dealer?

I haven't heard about it needing resetting at a dealer. To be safe, it might be easiest just to bring it to your local fast-fit and have them fit a new battery - that way if there are any problems they're responsible.

If you do replace it yourself, make sure you have the radio code first.

Be sure that the battery is definitly the problem. Before you go replacing it, you might want to check your alternator. It that's not working correctly it won't charge your battery and that could be why you end up having to jump start all the time.

Once I jump start, it's fine for the day. It gets me to work, and that evening it starts no problem.
Hmm, suppose I'll get someone to take a look to be sure.

It sounds like the battery needs replacement to me, if it holds enough charge to start the engine in the evening but not the following morning.

I had this same problem, a 01 golf. Turned out to just be a simple replacing of the alternator belt. Nothing major. Check that with a garage first, but the garage should have a little gizmo to test the % charge left that the battery can hold.
