Trying to get an upgraded chainring for my kona. On the wiggle website can only find a 44T 1/8 or a 42 3/32. Would prefer the 42 but cant find 1/8 size. Anyone know where?

Here you go -the TA ones are great quality (I have one on my fixie), and come in most sizes you could want

    Is this for a paddywagon?

If so the BCD is 110 (or at least was on the 2006 I got) so from a brief look those TA rings won't fit.

Apologies if I'm wrong but you should check this before you spend the money.

    A good point that...

    110 bcd chainrings

What I found was that it was nigh on impossible to get a single speed 1/8th" chainring for 110BCD that was any good.

I did buy a 110BCD 1/8" 42 teeth chainring from sjscycles.co.uk but it is fairly pants in terms of useful lifetime.

If you were thinking of spending any money on getting a decent chainring then you may also want to change the crankset and get a 130BCD or 144BCD.

Looks like the rings on the www.spacycles.co.uk link above are for double or triple setups and so have shaped teeth which are going to be more likely to drop the chain, plus are not 1/8th" which you initially said you wanted (although don't really need at the front).

If you have the cash, you might want to do it properly to start with and get a sugino 75 :D

Also, 42 at the front is pretty low unless you are running 14 or lower at the back. I guess you've already bought a new back cog if you want to run 1/8" and if that is a 16 like the original 3/32" one that comes with the paddywagon then maybe consider a 48 at the front.

    Or Sugino Messengers.. Droolworthy!

    Their chainring could fit though?

Guys says "This is a BRAND NEW Sugino Messenger 42t 130 BCD Chainring. It came with my 2009 Specialized Langster and is completly unused."

So basically.. What year is it?

    Thanks for the advice.
Am planning on changing the cranks too so ament too specific about the chain ring right now.
Re the 42T, run the standard 42 16 on my fw. Never feel undergeared, but also do all my long cycles on that bike now so may need the lower gearing for the hills. Would a 44/48 be a huge jump?

I've a black spire 42T ring in the tool box somewhere. I got it with a single speed conversion. I took it off cause it was too low geared. What BCD size do you need?

If you're changing cranks as well, better to get something with 130, or 144 BCD as you'll then have more options on chainrings. IMO, Sugino 75 is the daddy of cranks, with the Campagnolo Record Pista a close second, but they are pretty pricy!

Sugino RD are a lot cheaper, and still a nice crank :)

Cheers Tiny. Hoping to use the fw for the 200 so need something reliable. Am channelling my new bike budget into my kona so will go for the sugino. Thanks to all for the advice

Well, if that's what you fancy, this is where I got mine from -cheapest I could find on t'internets. I also use this bottom bracket, and the chainring is a TA one from my original post, purchased here (though for that particular one, they have 44 tooth as the smallest)

    Enjoy the build!!

Does that 107mm BB dial the chainline in with the standard rear hub on the paddywagon or have you changed rear hubs too?

Don't have a paddywagon anymore mate!

It has the chainline pretty much spot on to the Miche hubs I have on my build though -it's a fairly standard one though (can't think the exact measurement off the top of my head

Makes sense that they would work with the hub from the same place.

Looking forward to my 75s arriving... I think I will just see what the chainline is like with my existing BB and then get a new one if it is out.

The Miche chainline is pretty standard,, any hubs from decent manufacturers should be fine (iirc, the only exception is Goldtech)

Thanks again Tiny. Last question; I changed the bb on my paddywagon 2 months ago. Forget the axle size, but as I bought in cycleogical I presume the axle length is the same as the original. Will the Sugino fit this? (I see that the miche set on the same website require a 107)

It should fit just fine! (Worth a try anyway, as the new one is only 15quid or so if it doesn't work)
