Travelling from Birdhill today to Roscrea, We kept getting flashed (maybe 20 times), starting just outside Birdhill, to warn us of a Gatso van in Toomevara!

For those that dont know its roughly half an hour away!

I kept wondering what they were flashing for, thinking there must be a major accident up ahead or something...

    Thank God there wasn't!

Everybody think that flashing warning is a good thing to do. So those who was speeding can quickly reduce speed, those who have no insurance, tax or nct AND wanted criminals can pick another road. :D:D:D

It's only wrong if you get caught. Now all you little angels get off your high horses.

How is warning someone of a speed trap half an hour in advance a good thing now?
Best case scenario it's confusing, worst case it's dangerous (as everybody hits the brakes without reason / slows down, wondering wtf is going on. All you need is one sleepyhead among the hard-braking speeders and you got yourself a nice little accident)

Tell me that they were checking just the roscrea to birdhill direction? I was heading in the opposite direction around the same time and not sparing the horsees.

Apart from anything else, it won't work. If I get flashed 30 miles from a speed check, I'll have gone back to normal driving long before reaching the speed trap.

Is it possible that the guards moved the trap after the first flashers started?

Well in lithuania, we all flashing lights, if police in fron "shooting" with speed cameras. And that is really good idea.

But on the ather hand police in lithuania are huge b*stords. If you got stoped - you will be paying, and not to govermant, but to his pocket.

I know, my OP was half meant tongue in cheek...

Just found it a bit funny to be honest!

Everytime I get flashed more than twice in a row I pull over, get out and look for the old lady or pet that must be stuck to the front grille. So far, no dice.
