Short Week and Bank Holidays

In work we have been put on a 3 day week.

Half of us work Mon-Wed and the other half work Wed-Fri. What effect does this have on Bank Holidays. For example people who are working Mon-Wed does this mean they get a day off paid and the people on Wed-Fri don't?

As far as i know those that work the wed to fri should either be given an extra days pay or a day off in lieu. This does not have to be given in the week the bank holiday.

I think you would be treated as a part-time worker.
I presume your place of work doesn't open on bank holidays.
So you would all get 20% of you normal working hours paid as well as the day off or another day off that week.
So the guys on Mon Tue Wed would get Monday off and a payment of 20% of their weekly wages.
The guys on Wed Thur Fri get a day off and a payment of 20% of their weekly wages.

The only way it could be different is that an agreement is in place that you would keep all benefits of full time employment while on short time.

Thanks, there wasn't really any agreement we were just told that we would all be on a short week for the foreseeable future. Bank Holidays were never discussed!

    It all depends.
Some companies treat annual leave and public holidays on a pro-rata basis for those who are working part-time. I.e. a 3 day week would equate to 60% annual leave entitlement, and in the case of public holidays 60% of a days paid leave- which would normally be accumulated with other leave entitlements to make a full days leave.

You need to check your contract.

We don't have contracts thats part of the problem and then also when we were all employed we were so on a 5 day week but have been put on a 3 day week as business is slow.

Unless told otherwise- I would make an assumption that it is on a pro-rata basis. All the better for you- if it isn't- but its not a reasonable assumption that it isn't.
