The emission light has came on and its stayed on.Corsa is my mates and we are wondering is it serious?

Would an indepedent garage be able to sort it out?

Car has done about 120 miles with the light on :o

Is the car driving ok?If yes then dont worry.

Your car may have some problem but nothing serious, its difficult to come by an opel that doesnt have a light flashing on the dash board, its just asking for a service, get it done.

Any decent indy should be able to sort this out OP. Get it hooked up to a diagnostic system and take it from there...

OP, don't ever ignore a warning light on the dash. For example, if you have an emissions problem (a fawlty lambda sensor could cause the engine warning light to come on), this can cause your catalythic converter to be destroyed by having to cope with an incorrect (over rich), air:fuel mixture. So where you had one problem, if you ignore the information being given to you, you would end up with 2 problems (lambda sensor and a cat).

All garages will obviously charge you for diagnostic work, they can turn off the light but if they do not identify and resolve the underlying issue, the light will come back on again. You are ultimately paying them to use their skill and experience to identify an issue and advise on how to resolve that issue, not to simply turn a light off on your dash...

I had a Opel corsa and found this light came on and off on my vehicle. Now my vehicle required a cat at the time because when pulling away it had lack of power. I replaced the cat and it was found to be broken up inside which I thought was the problem. There are no sensors at all on the exhaust system of the Opel corsa, well not on my one 1996 model. I wouldn't pay anyone to diagnose the fault for starters the older models don't have a on board computer system so they will be just going by knowledge. If your exhaust is fine and you have no lack of power then it could be a faulty sensor. Now I am know big mechanic on Opel's but I would say that this light is coming on because the emissions are not getting through correctly. When have you last had the car serviced. If it has done 120miles it has plenty of miles left in her and personally a emission light isn't that serious.

Reset the ECU and see if the light comes on again. My frineds astra VXR had some light saying it needed serviced or something after he heard a misfire in the engine, he reset his ECU, dunno how its done on opels but on my mazda, if I dissconnect the battery and press the brake pedal 10 seconds then drive around slowly this does the trick for an ECU reset. Give it a try before going futher!?
