    Like the title says, I've never been able to get into rts games. Picked up HW and love it but am useless in online matches. I can last long enough to build up a good cash flow and nearly all the buildings and upgrades but fall apart when trying to overturn the opposition.

    Anyone any good basic hints or tips?!

    Thanks in advance

    IVe stoped playing stratagy games online, WAY to addictive...I cant get enough of them. Age of Empires nearly destroyed me. Its all a matter of practice though mate. You just gotta learn about new strats and ask around about new rushes and stuff like that.

    I've not played Halo Wars but I imagine it is build with the nuts and bolts of all strategy games. The first rule being that for every type of unit that attacks, you have a unit that can counter it in a cost effective way. It's just a matter of learning the strengths and weakness of all your units (and those of your enemies).

    I played LotR BfmE on the xbox which I quite enjoyed, you could probably pick that up very cheap now.

    I think you need to pick a strategy and go for it. You say that you can build all the buildings; I would say focus on a core line (or have a plan B too just in case the enemy has the defence to cope with the force you are building). You should be on the front foot attacking - send groups of 2 and 3 even just to scout / harass.

    Also, try to target resources (I haven't played HW but go for the resource building units) - a) it costs to replace them b) they have a slower rate of resource build while missing these units c) you are distracting the other player. Micro management :)

    I'm still learning the ins and outs of it but have found a few easy ways of defeating the opponent;
    Hawk air units, in great supply can do a lot of damage or,
    ODST upgraded troops are excellant for destroying opponents - and you can deploy up to 10 additional units into the heart of the battle when you need!

    i have only been playin it about a week and i think the key is obviously, get as many resources pts as possibly as it is with all stratagey games...

    I find that, I generally build up a few untis, marines, to defend my bases while i upgrade my whole tech tree, then i just generally use the UNSC uber unit (cant remember the name of it) and send like two of those in, then i just like bombard the crap out of them with ODST and Mac Rounds,

    although that only works on normal, i havnt really tried it on any other difficulty. might try it soon though and will let you know how it goes :D
