Garda/motorway related question

    Hi,

I'm a long time browser of the forum and now I need some help as this has been playing on my mind.
Yesterday afternoon I was going to Cork, doing about 140-145km/h on the M7. I was in a bit of a world of my own, behind another car doing a slightly quicker speed, when I noticed a Garda car coming up behind me at a fairly quick pace. I pulled in and slowed down a bit. The car in front of me noticed later and pulled into the inside lane too. The Garda car then pulled in front of the car that I had been following and they pulled into the hard shoulder (there was a car between us at this stage). I slowed down to see if they would motion me in, but there was no indication at all that they wanted me to pull in so I continued on my way.

Am I likely to hear any more from this? Has anyone had a similar experience?

I know it was stupid not to pull over to even check, but I have no experience with this and I just assumed that they were just after the car in front.

All help appreciated as it's starting to torment me!

Unless a Garda car pulls behind me and turns on the sirens i usually pull over to let him pass, if he doesnt pass i know hes pulling me in! AFAIK the Gardai dont pull in front of people to pull them in unless the person is oblivious to their presence....

THats my opinion anywho! I could be wrong but i doubt anything will happen to ya!

I'm guessing it was a fully livered Garda car since you noticed it coming up behind you? Or was it unmarked and just the speed/D reg that alerted you to it?

It was a fully liveried up car. There were 3 in it, and the Guard in the back looked at me from the hard shoulder - I was looking at her to see if I should pull in. They pulled in front of the other car, put on their indicators and then pulled into the hard shoulder with that car.

Looking back, it seems silly that I didn't pull in, but it's one of those things.

Im guessing that both of you missed the car (probably parked in their lay-by..or on a flyover) and as he was in front they detected him first....i'd say you got away with it (this time)...;)

Thanks for the replies so far. I know there is a penalty of failing to stop for Gardai, but as there was absolutely no motion for me to pull in ( I would have expected it to be very clear), should I be worried about this?

You are lucky. Garda should have pulled you in for driving in the overtaking lane.

I had only gone into the outside lane shortly beforehand, to overtake cars. The other car however had been sitting in the outside lane for miles. I don't sit in the outside lane - it's one of my pet hates!

Based on the information you've posted, I wouldn't be worrying if it was me anyway.

Doing that would have been as good as saying "Yes officer, I was speeding, fine me now and endorse my license whilst you're at it".
If they had wanted you to stop they would have indicated as such...

Worrying bout it wont stop the letter coming through the door , But I highly doubt it will , stop worrying and cheer up eat an orange.

If they wanted you to pull over, you'd know all about it. And you only get a ticket in the post when it was taken from a fixed camara or a gatso van. A squad car would have to pull you over to confirm who you are. Fixed camaras take a picture of you.

I'd be 99% certain that there is nothing to worry about OP. Based on what you have said, they probably knew you were speeding as well, but had put there efforts into getting the first guy.

Of the 2 times I've been done for speeding (many years ago, I'm a reformed character since, m'lud) I was once hauled in along with another car.
The Garda car pulled up alongside, passenger made the pointy gesture & then put on the blue lights to pull the chap in front.

I'd say if they wanted you to stop they'd have made it pretty damn clear; they'd regard failing to stop as a serious enough offence & would have probably persued you.

I'd agree there. Same thing happened to me, two cars in front of me were pulled in and I jus drove on 'beetroot' at this stage:D No motion was made for me to pull in, and I looked at them too to see but they didn't even look at me....nor did I get any letters/fines or such in the post.

    Stop worrying.

+1 OP. You'll be grand. 3 of them in the car they were probably dropping the young fella off to do a bit of work!

But I'd be worried about this in outside lane:p
