Rent Supplement

I was sacked on Friday last.

I am living on my own and paying 700 Euro per month rent for a one bedroom apartment in Drogheda.

I have no means of income and no savings etc. I also have nowhere else to go until I find a new job.

Is it likely that I would recieve some assistance with my rent payments?

    Thanks a lot.

I think if you should get something towards to your rent, maybe you could find a cheaper place? Hope everything works out for you

The cut off for Louth as a single person living alone is only 115 euro per week so you will have to find a cheaper place to avail of rent supplement.

It also depends on the landlord. A lot of them refuse rent allowance.

Thanks for the replies. I would be fine with getting the 115 per week plus jobseekers and keeping this place for 700 until I get a job. It would leave me with enough to get by on, but it seems that they would rather see you homeless than 'just getting by'?

I will try to find somewhere cheaper to live.

    Cheers.

Unfortunately it doesnt work that way. As far as I am aware you get the regional payment (in this case €115p.w) and you pay €18 p.w as a contribution. You cannot pay rent higher than this sum ( €133 p.w in this case). The community welfare officer may give you a couple of weeks at a higher rate but they will most likely advise that you renegotiate your rent or get cheaper accomodation. I am open to correction on this..
