What album(s) have you listended to so far? Boys and Grls... is a fantastic album. Never get tired of listenin to it. Separation Sunday is also really good. They are supporting Counting Crows sometime this year, how they are the 'supporting' band is beyond me.

The only album i heard is "Stay Positive" which is their most recent i think. I got it on Thursday and have not stopped listening to is since.

Have Stay Positive and think its great fun. Just a constantly enjoyable rock album with clever writing, which tbh is sometimes all I want.

Yeah, Stay Positive is excellent but BOGIA is superb....id say you will really like it. And make sure you go and buy the CD...save the illegal stuff for the rich bands!

I love the Hold Steady but I can't escape the nagging feeling that they're just rehashing the same song over and over. I mean all their songs are basically about going out and drinking too much or taking too many drugs. These guys are in their late 30s, time to move on, no?
All the same, even if they are rehashing the same song, its a great song to start with.

I thought stay positive was great when I first heard it but have since grown sick of it. Much prefer boys and girls which still gets a listen.

I can't believe they are supporting the counting crows either. I'd love to se them but I don't know if could justify paying 50 quid for a support set. Hopeful that they'll play in the academy or the olympia while they are here.
I can appreciate that the subject matter of the songs is a bit samey, but there are more 'mature' songs on Stay Positive - track 7 for one, don't know the name of it. Overall though, their songs have great energy and it cartainly doesn't hurt that there is a good smattering of Springsteen in there :pac:

The Hold Steady are one of my favourite bands - I gotta disagree and say that Seperation Sunday is their best album followed closely by Almost Killed Me & Boys & Girls. Really liked Stay Positive at the start but it just doesn't age as well

BTW if you want to know anything more about them then try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hold_Steady

Almost Killed Me still remains my favourite album of theirs. They did a killer version of Positive Jam from this album last year in the Academy. Great gig.

Seperation Sunday is my favourite. It's kinda cheesey, but I like the story of this 'hoodrat' girl who's supposed to be some sort of saviour for suburban teenagers or whatever. The last two songs are absolutely perfect together, I think. How A Resurrection Really Feels is majestic.

Saw them backing the Rolling Stone's a coupel of years back, good gig. I reckon Seperation Sunday is their best to date.

An absolutely fantastic band by all accounts. For me it'd go Almost Killed Me > Seperation Sunday > Boys And Girls In America > Stay Positive. I saw them live at ****** last year, and they were brilliant. Right up the front too. :)

It's a link to some stuff Craig Finn did between Lifter Puller and the Hold Steady. Afaik, it was all free to download when it was released, so don't think there's any issues with posting a link to it here.

Stay Positive and Constructive Summer are two of the best songs of last year
