iPhone 3G "Call Ended" and "Call Failed" problem

I hope somebody might have some advice in realtion to this problem I'm having with my new iPhone 3G on 02 billpay... Here is a summary:

-Three days after getting my new iPhone 3G, it suddenly stopped letting me make or receive calls
    - I instantly get "call ended" and "call failed" messages when I try to call anyone
    - I sometimes get "No Service" in the top left corner, and almost always have zero or a small signal for 02
    - I tried my sim card in another phone and the sim worked ok
    - I tried turning off 3G, but this didn't make any difference
    - I took it to an 02 store, they couldn't do anything
    - I phoned the 02 customer support line... they couldn't help, so forwarded me to Apple
    - Apple made me reset the settings and network settings... then restore the iphone by re-installing the iphone software...
    - I have read that lots of other people have had the same experience... sometimes this has been fixed by setting "Caller ID" to ON or changing the time and date settings, but not for me...
    - Now my iPhone is sometimes unresponsive, slow and it even crashes / reboots...
    - (Update:) I can't even seem to turn it off now

Is there anything else I can try before sending it off to be fixed / replaced?

    Thanks

If a hard reset doesn't work then there's few options left generally. Not familiar with the exact problem though as I don't have an iPhone.

Have you tried getting a SIM replacement from O2?

What software version is it running? Go to Settings > General > About to check. I had some of those problems when I got the iPhone last October, but after the 2.2 upgrade, it's been fine. I'm on PAYG, but it shouldn't make a difference.

    It's version 2.2.1 (5H11)

I didn't get a SIM replacement... but my sim works fine in my brother's 02 phone... and his sim didn't work in my iphone...

Try a Sim exchange. make sure you have a 3G sim card (wrote on the Sim) alot of people out there dont have this believe it or not. In saying that make sure you turn the phone on/off on a regular basis. No matter what version you have, the phone will tend to freeze, go blank, function slowly, drop calls. I recommend a turn on/off at least once every 48hrs. Just for 5 mins. Hope this helps! If not dont waste any of your time arguing in the phone shops you wont get anywhere, just ring apple and arrange for collection.

Quiet possibly. But i hear alot iphone complaints on a daily basis! As good as the phones are, they can be a headache.
