Does anyone out there know of a place that I could get some infomation about a €2 coin I found that has a mint defect. Was wondering if something like this could have some value.

Ummm the best way I can explain it is the coin is two metals and where the metals join there is a noticable gap on one side. I will take photos and put it up tomorrow if that is any help.

I'll give you a valuation on it when you post up the pictures. I'm assuming the gap is curved.

Below are past results of 2 ebay auctions, one for 1 euro and the other for a 2 euro, both with the same clipping. 2 Euro coins are more in demand. If I was you I'd be happy to get 50 dollars for it on ebay, you could always try that and put it in the same category. You'll want much better pictures though!

Keep in mind however that any serious Irish dealer wouldn't give you much for this as this "error" is easily forged. Clipping coins is just too easy to do so dealers generally stay away from them, unlike serious mint errors like off center strikes and multiple strikes.

Thanks a million. I recon that I will hold onto the coin as I have a small collection at the moment as my father is a collector but I will also source a coin collector shop in Dublin and get some more infomation and get him to take a better look at it. Do you know of any place in Dublin that I can goto?

You are not going to get any more information than what I've just given you. If you want to know how clipping occurs just do a quick google. None of the dealers are any more specialised in this area than I am. In fact as I said already, they'll probably just tell you it's worthless for the reasons I gave above. Personally I'd flog it on ebay.
