    Hi,

asking this question for a neighbour who is hoping to raise funds for a disabled child to travel foreign for treatment - the target is €60,000.

She is planning on having a number of fundraisers - bag packing collectors in local Dunnes Stores, sponsored wax night ( ), pub quizzes are a few of the things that are popping up as brain storm ideas but there will be a few more.

The question she wants to know is if she will need any permit or authorisation from An Garda Siochana in order to run such collections. These events will be staged over a period of time in different locations around Dublin and in one instance in Cavan, (she has family there who want to run an event in support of the whole affair too).

Does anyone have any experience with anything like this - does she need such a permit - if so will one cover all events over a period of time or does she need one for each event and how is it obtained.

    Many thanks,

    SPFENO

as far as my limited understanding goes - Street & House-to-House permits are for just that - collecting on the street & from house to house.

Pub fundraisers just need permission from the landlord afaik.

Her best bet would be to contact the Superintendents office of her local Garda Station with the details of the fundraisers she intends running. Applications to run a raffle, promote lottery etc differ from those required to conduct a collection.
