    Great news indeed.

What did you think of Our Love To Admire? I don't think it really lived up to Antics/Turn on the Bright Lights... Maybe it's just me though.

    Hurrah!
Yeah got an email about it yesterday, something to look forward to alright.

Michellenman - I thought OLTA was a great album, just a bit different to the other two.- then again Antics was quite different to TOTBL

Better off playing your Joy Division singles at 33 RPM.

I thought OLTA was amazing at first, but now after listening to it for ages I don't think it will age as well as their first two.

Really can't wait for this though, been waiting for some type of news for a while!

I'll listen to JD if I want to listen to JD.
I'll listen to Interpol if I want to listen to Interpol.
    Both amazing bands.
But eh..they're different. Every band has influences.

I thought they were gonna split after I saw them live last summer. They just looked like a band who didn't care anymore so I am delighted to read this post. I hope they took ample time off and I would rather they take their time and return with something amazin than to just release any old first batch of songs like they did with OLTA.

I like OLTA but I rarely listen from start to finish like TOTBL and Antics. For me it's the first Interpol album that has boring songs. All Fired Up's chorus is horrible and it the point I always switch off.

To say I'm excited is a massive understatement.

    New album = Tour

My favourite band. OLTA might'nt have been as good as the others but it did have Lighthouse which is such a haunting song. Gave me shivers when I heard it live the first time. Can't wait.

It makes interesting news, plus Paul has a Tasche now which is funny to see. Did you go to his site to hear a snippet of music?

That is quite interesting news! Surprised how Pitchfork havent picked up on it yet.....

Ye i have heard the snippet. Its different which is great to hear. Interpol are famous for being different yet the same, very much the same! The Interpol effect.

Yea I saw this earlier too, I like the sample thats on the website, but the Interpol album is being rehearsed already so no worries really on waiting longer for that.

I'd really like to hear The Specialist live, or some of their other EPs like precipitate, or Mind Over Time, some really good tracks.

Here's some older tracks from 'Julian Plenti'.

lol...in fairness though their first album was great...the last album was terrible ...(no songs and no dynamics)....hopefully they'll go back to making kick ass tunes again.....with the same passion as obstacle 1

I dont understand why so many people dismiss OLTA, Mammoth and the Heinrich Maneuvre are brilliant songs live, the lighthouse is a favourite of many, although its one of my disliked songs of theirs.

Too many people just start banging on about how it sucks compared to TOTBL instead of giving an opinion on the album itself....

i really still enjoy OLTA, some great moments on it.TUTBL is still immense...always love listening to all of it.saw them live, was epic.can't wait for new tour!

Please be careful when discussing live events - it's getting very annoying at this stage. Thread cleaned up. If you don't know what I'm talking about, have a read of the stickies on the top of the Alternative & Indie home page.

MP3 is available to download from julianplenti.com now, 'Fun That We Have'.

Might be worth a listen for anyone who can't wait for Interpol's next album.

Our Love To Admire was awful
Antics was half great half alright just.
Turn On The Bright Lights was excellent

I think a lot of people would tend to disagree. I can't name a weak track on either of the first albums. Please name me one!?
And their third album, while in my opinion wasn't up to the high standards of the first two, was still great in comparison to a lot of muck out these days.
In fact in my opinion there's only one "filler" track on it. Still a class album. Awful, it was not.

It was very generic, lacked the inititial depth that made them stand out in the first place.

20 November - Interpol look set to have a new album out early next year.

It's the follow-up to 2007's 'Our Love To Admire' and the group's fourth studio album.

In an interview, the band's drummer said its sound is a return to that of their debut album Turn On The Bright Lights.

Yeeeees. Great news. Interesting about them returning to the sound in the first album. I mean I don't think they've radically changed their sound over three albums.

I love Interpol and as someone who liked to think they could do no wrong I was underwhelmed with OLTA but I tried to convince myself that I wasn't. I love Pioneer, No I in threesome, Pace is the Trick etc but the latter half is quite weak. The album starts to lose me at All Fired Up, not to say that every song after it is bad.

Delighted to hear Sam sounding enthused about the new material and as much as they haven't lost their sound in the years, I am excited that TOTBL will be the direction. It doesn't so much have to sound like them days of Interpol but that album and that era (B-sides) they were tighter musicians and everything was a little more intricate than the later albums. If anything their progression from here was a more commercial version of their sound.

I'd consider myself a huge Interpol fan (broke, years ago I had to decide between seeing Har Mar Superstar in Whelans and Interpol, playing around the same time, think it was the Village. On account of not having heard TOTBL I chose Har Mar. I still look back with regret...)

In relation to OLTA - It's got great songs on it but is less than the sum of it's parts. Some songs fit, others don't. If it was made by anyone else I'd say it was a very good album but Interpol have set the bar so high with the previous two, I was left a little underwhelmed. Certainly not a bad or average album but not their best effort. Some individually brilliant songs on it.

Can't wait for a new one though.
