Wireless using Chorus broadband?

A friend of mine got in chorus and he a has a router but he can't connect to the internet unless he has a thing called Netgrear WG111V3 plugged into his laptop. I think he should be using something called Atheros Ar5005G wireless network but can't get it working, any advice?

Is there a wireless switch on the laptop (Sometimes an actual switch or inside the laptops preferences, This is known as QuickSet for dells for example), make sure its on, and try then, you will also need the security code if present to access the network
