    I have just been sacked from work. Do I have to wait 3 months or however long to get any money even if I have no other means?

    You can go to your local Community Welfare Officer once you have made a claim for JSB or JSA. Here you apply for SWA ( equivalent to JSA JSB payment ) it is means tested. The link below provides info on SWA.

    Thanks very much for that. Do you know what to do if you are paying rent and want to apply for help with that when there too but have no traditional rent book?

    For rent supplement you cant be paying over a certain amount rent per week and you need to show the social welfare your rent book every month that your rent is paid up to date.
