    Hey,

Is anybody on this board doing this course (MSc in Multimedia), if so could you tell me a bit about it. Like what kind of software is used and what do they focus on in lectures, is it mostly theory or practical .

    Thanks. :)

Unless they've changed the course greatly in the last year or so, you're looking at using Protools for radio/sound modules, Final Cut for video and Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash (CS3) for web design, etc. The majority of assignments will involve practical elements but do be prepared for a decent amount of theory, with a few essays to do in the areas of visual culture and communication theory, etc. Optional modules may also add to the theory load.

    Cheers, thanks for replying,

Can you tell me if all this software like Final Cut and Pro Tools and Adobe, is it just the basics of each they teach or is it like going into intermediate and advanced levels of the applications.

Also anybody know if theres a masters course in Web Design

In 1st year you'll learn the basics of these in audio, video, and imaging but you'll be encouraged to work on your own in the labs to get a better grade .The lectures and seminars will go through the basics and you'll be expected to add to them once you've picked up the basics.
In second year you'll have to decide to concentrate on either audio, video, or imaging and you'll go into much more detail in the one you chose obviously. You'll still have theory modules and some other modules along side your choice.

    It's a fun course.

I'm currently doing the BSc in Multimedia but have friends in the MSc course. Basically since a lot of these students haven't got a BSc in Multimedia they start at the beginning and teach everyone the basics so they all get a good place to start from. Then there is a bit more work done, eg. in Audio Soundtrack Pro etc is introduced, In Imaging you use Photoshop, Illustrator and others (sorry i did the audio stream in the BSc so don't know much about the advanced imaging/video, i do know that there are a few more apps used though)

It is all on an introductory basis though as far as i've been told by MSc students. Whichever ones you find the most interesting/enjoyable you are free to develop you skills on your own.

It's a great course though, really diverse and never a dull day! :) Do be prepared for some theory lectures but if you can get through them you'll be fine! :D
