    This from RTE
A cyclist is in hospital with serious injuries after an accident in the Sandyford area of Dublin earlier this morning. There were no other vehicles involved. The 32-year-old man was taken to St Vincent's University Hospital. Woodside Road, where the accident took place, remains closed.
I hope all you Boardsies are safe and hopefully this guy is doing okay.

I was heading up towards Glencullen around 11:30 this morning and the road past the Blue Light was closed off because a cyclist had been in an accident. Didn't get much more detail than that from the guard on duty, but it must have been the same incident. The news report mentions that no other vehicles were involved - I guess that's an easy enough place to come a cropper, especially on a morning as windy as this.

Hi. iwas up that way this morning and had to double back due to the Garda road block.

I thought I heard a Garda tell a van driver that a cyclist was killed. Gardai all over the place up there.

Hopefully it is true that the person is only injured as opposed to deceased.

IMO only a matter of time before a cyclist was knocked down in the middle of the night !!!

I'm not a cyclist but the level of visibility of cyclists at that time (approx 2.30am) is very low ..... dont want to stirr it up - but its a possibility that either the cyclist or the driver was after consuming alcohol !!!

It is my understanding that no other vehicle was involved.

I don't get you... are you saying it's darker at 2.30am than it is at 8.30pm?

I think dusk is the most dangerous time because people forget to switch on their lights.

And I think dusk is the most dangerous time because people do switch on their lights unnecessarily.

I have noticed that here in Ireland motorists turn on lights and fog lights sometimes up to one hour before lighting up time. This can lead to the oncomming traffic having reduced visibility of cyclists and pedestrians on their own side of the road. Most motorists have no concept of the effect of pointing up to 200 Watts of lighting at and oncomming driver. Yes you can see the lights but little else.

Sorry I disagree. Some countries insist that you use you car headlights during the day too, for safety. You can't switch off the dimmed lights on most motorbikes now. The boyos using the front fogs bugs me big time. Dusk throws funny shadows and am always weary of cycling at this time of day.

Really hope the lad is OK. If the accident happened at 2.30am and the road was still closed this morn it must have been bad.....

Sardinia is one of those places were you have to have your lights on all the time.

Hope the guy recovers ok. Sounds like a nasty accident.

Fingers crossed for this guy, hope he pulls through. I hope it wasn't long between the accident and someone finding him and calling an ambulance, but late at night I fear that may have been the case.
