Currently I am with Perlico, but I find that the service has degraded over
the past 3/4 months especially since XMAS.
Logged several calls with Perlico no help, they suggested it was my Laptop
but we have several PC's all are slow. Did a clean install on a spare PC just
XP and AV, direct connection to the modem, still slow
They had the line was checked by Eircom all ok.
Speedtest.net says its ok, but my downloads are slow.
    Examples:
    Download from firefox 65-80 kb/s.
    Download from ubantu 70-80 kb/s
    Download from Hp 75-85 kb/s
    Download from IBM 70-80 kb/s

    Any advice appreciated.

Also note pings to speedtest, it dosent add up.

Some servers to avoid "ping of death" DDOS ignore or de-prioritise ping response. ping www.heanet.ie

Speed tests measure bits per second
Browser and ftp clients measure bytes per second. 8 bits per byte. But there are other overheads too in file download such as handshake, time to write to disk and packets resent to cover errors. So the filedownload x10 can be closer to Speedtest. The DSL has overheads so the speedtest ought to be a a few percent less than line speed.
