Transport Ireland 2009 Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry - 8/4/09

Anyone going to this? In my opinion another useless talking shop full of suits. Most of the speakers will be there at taxpayers expense including our own illustrious Transport Minister, Noel Dempsey, whose knowledge of transport could be written on the back of a postage stamp. The usual suspects are all there including Dick Fearn CEO of IE, and Joe Meagher formerly CEO of IE and now at Bus Eireann.

Just to ensure that the 'great unwashed' stay away the modest attendance fee is set at €295! :D

Presumably this gig is to stimulate a bit of business for the Hotel Industry whilst also allowing a few extra Toll journeys to accumulate on Minister Dempsey`s shiny new PPP network.

It`s difficult to see how, given Minister Dempsey`s current policy vacuum, any meaningful Public Transport policy decisions will be formulated here.

Perhaps they will park-up the 200 odd withdrawn CIE Group Buses in the field beside the Hotel as a backdrop.

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

I spoke at a version of this in 2003, in the early days of P11. What we had to say didn't go down well with the state bodies, organisers and every other politically appointed quango that had a vested interest in the gig.

The grub wasn't too bad though.:D

Corporate Ireland doesn't like the truth. Apparently it hinders the digestion of the lunch or causes indigestion during the afternoon sessions. (that are usually empty anyway.)
