    Sky freeview?
I have a Sky satellite dish and box and all that jazz but i'm sick of paying 27 quid a month for all the channels i dont use.
I've heard of sky freeveiw but not sure exactly how it works..if i ring em up and cancell my subscription,am i allowed to keep the satellite box & dish and use that to scab free channels or what?

as long as you've had the contract 12 months, the box is yours.

i dont think HD/Sky+ work that way tho.

Just remove your viewing card and unplug your box. Plug it back in and off you go.

The box will default to the UK setup, with BBC1 on 101 etc. As previously posted you will lose RTE and the subscription channels.

You get BBC 3, BBC4, ITV2 etc. when the card is removed.

This will give you an idea or what's available before you cancel your sub.

It works for Sky+ also, but you obviously lose the PVR functions.

Put you card back in, unplug again and it'll return to normal.

You haven't really. Freeview is the UK terrestrial broadcast consortium. You mean "FreesatFromSky". (The clue is "sat".) :)

I love the contemptuous phrasing......apart from maybe 3 or 4 of the satellite channels (assuming they're not showing yet ANOTHER repeat) 1, 2 & 4 are the best of a bad lot!

I just phoned up SKY and canceled my account. I have been with them 10 years and had SKY+ and HD but at €42 a month I can do without it at the moment.

I had heard that they would keep me on the phone for ages and try to persuade me to stay with them. They did offer discounts in order to keep me but I just told them that it was a luxury I couldn't afford and that the next direct debit would not be paid through no fault of my own. They agreed to cancel immediately but again offered me a discount if I came back at any time in the future. The call lasted no more than 5 minutes.

I had to give 31 days notice and given that I just paid for the month of March it means that I have my channels until 10th April and will have a final bill of €6.

I've tried changing the system over to the English listings and it worked fine. If you want to know how to do this - go to channel 501 - press the red interactive button - when it is in interactive mode remove the card - give it a moment and it will go to listings. All the free to air channels were still there including BBC 1,2,3,4 HD, ITV, SKYNews, E4, CNN and loads more. This suits me fine as I currrently only watch these channels anyway. To get back to the Irish version of things I just inserted the card again.

    Now if I could only find a way to get RTE1 & 2 !!!
