Last night, myself and one of the lads decided to see what we would pay in car tax under the new emissions thing, if it applied to all cars and not just new ones. Completely hypothetical situation I know, but interesting. Use Parkers.co.uk to find your CO2 emissions and see...would you be paying more or less?

    I have a 1999 BMW 318is 1.9. It's 1895cc and i pay 582 euro a year road tax. The cars CO2 emissions are 185. Under the new system, I would pay 630 euro a year.

    What about ye?

Subaru Forester 2.5XT. A 330 would have been well over €1,000 on the old system.

    CC rate €823
    CO2 rate €2100!!

I'd be into band G by 1 poxy g/km
I'll have to either sell the car before they expand the CO2 taxing or arrange a coup to get those green party a$$holes out of the dáil. Who's with me?

Afterthought: Surely there's something wrong with a system that has a fairly modern (2002) well maintained 2.2l car paying the tip top rate of tax while the roads are full of diesel buses, coaches, trucks and vans belching out soot to beat the band. I'll say it one more time, if you want the polluter to pay, put the tax on the fuel, not the car!
