No, you can only receive terrestrial Freeview with an aerial in the UK. What you need is a Freesat receiver or a Sky Digibox or a Free To Air (FTA) satellite receiver.

i was told that if i wired a freeview box to the dish and change a setting i could use a freeview box, while still having sky.

I think there is a little confusion here. If it is a Free to air satellite receiver or Freesat receiver it will work, if it as a Freeview receiver it will not work. To sum it all up If it is a satellite receiver it will work fine but if it is a receiver ment for terrestrial services via an aerial, like Freeview in the UK it wont.

Read the posts, its Freesat or Free to air you need not Freeview. The LIDl box will work as will any free to air box but if you get a freesat box you get the benefit of 7 day programme guide.
