    Hi

I've got a question about the side slip / alignment test on the nct. My car failed the NCT on this yesterday.

What is the best way to fix this? Rebalance the tires?

If so, would I be better off to go to the likes of Advance etc or could people recommend a good place northside to do this?

    Thanks

    LIB

The balancing of the tyres or otherwise has absolutely zero impact on the problem you have here OP.

You need to get the car suspension components checked first, have a reputable mechanic check the suspension for the following:

    (1) Wishbone bushing wear

    (2) Suspension (lower) ball joint wear

    (3) Steering (upper) ball joint/track rod end wear

    (4) Steering rack inner tie rod wear

After a check of the suspension system for defects, get your wheel alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.

It is important that the checks above are done before wheel alignment is adjusted because if there is a problem with one of the above components, you can have the wheel alignment done but will still have a problem.

Usually if one of the above components is causing a wheel alignment issue, it will be listed separately on the fail sheet but not always.

ALSO, what year, make & model is the car?

Yeah as darragh said it could be worn suspension components or it could just be worn tyres and bad alignment.

if you are out near blanch try

www.tyres4less.ie they are in rosemount ind estate and i found them excellent. they solved a similar fail fo rmy GF. I would avoid advance myself.

Worn tyres are the symptom NOT the cause.

OP do what Darragh says and you'll get sorted. Sorry I can't help with where to bring it to but any very good tyre fitters should be able to get you sorted.

Just be careful OP, a lot of outlets will just jump into a front axle wheel alignment without checking for suspension component wear. A lot of the time, doing alignment will resolve the issue but you can see from previous threads on this forum that sometimes people get alignment done and they still have a problem, so just be sure components are checked before alignment is done.

If the mileage is reasonable, taking into account the year of your car OP, you would be unlucky to have component damage as this is the first NCT for a car of that year and my experience has been that typically you won't see suspension component damage on an 05 car with average mileage, so it might just be a wheel alignment problem but have it checked out anyway. Also I forgot to mention, check the type pressures on the front axle...
